Increases to minimum wage and award rates in

NSW State Wage Case

The Full Bench of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) handed down its 2007 State Wage Case decision on Friday 8 June. It provides for substantial increases to  NSW award rates and minimum wage, falling just short of union claims and surpassing substantially the moderate increase for which Employers First™ argued. The IRC decision basically corresponds to the rises recommended by the NSW Government.

The main items in the decision are:

  • A $27 per week increase in the award minimum wage
  • A $20 per week increase in award rates
  • An increase of 4% for junior rates and monetary allowances

There is no immediate pay increase, which will only take place when the IRC varies individual awards.

The decision only applies to employees covered by NSW State awards. Employers who are “constitutional corporations” covered by Federal Workchoices legislation and employees covered by federal awards are not affected by this decision.

Full details and a review of the decision will appear in the forthcoming Employers Adviser™
